FAQs

  • Nope, not at all! These coaching tools are helpful to everyone regardless of identities. It’s true that some social conditioning is more profoundly felt by certain communities. So the issues felt by queer folks are certainly something I’ve got more practice untangling than the social struggles unique to BIPOC folks, for example. But the beauty of thoughtwork is that it is universal, and my tools and coaching can work for anyone!

  • Just let me know! I work on a sliding scale, and my rates can be adjusted for your situation as needed. I care more about getting my marginalized group the help they need than about charging a specific rate. I do recommend paying at least something, because human brains tend to take “thing I paid for” more seriously than “thing I’m getting for free.” But we can adjust what you’re charged as frequently as you need!

  • Most clients will start to see profound changes in their life in the 3-6 month range, and at six months, you’ll start to be able to coach yourself through issues. The turnaround will depend heavily on how much you play with these tools outside of sessions.

That said, coaching is also great as an ongoing practice. I’ve been doing this for years, and I still frequently hit walls and blind spots that I need help processing. How long you want to stick with sessions depends on what you want to get out of it! We can talk more specifics of your situation in my our free consultation call.

  • Absolutely not! Neuroplasticity may decrease slightly with age, but practice has more of an effect than age anyway. Which is nerd speak for: you can change your brain at any age. I know people who didn’t discover this work until age 60+, and are still going strong. The only thing that matters is a commitment to change!

  • My goal is definitely not to replace psychological therapy! Important disclaimer here: I am not a licensed therapist. If you have serious mental health concerns, I highly encourage you to seek that licensed, trained support. But thoughtwork CAN act as a great supplement to therapy, a next step for people who’ve had so much therapy they can therapize themselves, or a tool for those who are already doing okay, but want to be doing GREAT.

Here we believe:

  • Self diagnosis is valid and important

  • All identities are intersectional

  • BMI is not an effective indicator of health

  • Bodies are beautiful and functional at every size

  • Bigotry and prejudice are real and damaging

  • Oppressive systems suck, and they do not have to control your experience of life

  • You are the only person who has authority on your own experience

  • You are not responsible for other people’s thoughts and feelings

  • Internalized ableism is a sneaky bitch

  • Capitalistic gains are not the only definition of success

  • Therapy and coaching can coexist

  • You have everything you need to create the life you want to have
